The two halves of every quote

A conveyancing quote has two parts: the firm's legal fee for the work, and disbursements — money paid out on your behalf to third parties. Searches, Land Registry fees and bank transfer charges are disbursements. They are not profit, and they are not negotiable.

A fixed fee should cover the legal work from instruction to completion. If a quote separates out routine tasks like ID checks or a leasehold pack review, it is not fixed.

What we insist on

Every quote we send states the legal fee, the disbursements we can predict, and the ones that depend on the property. If your move falls through, you pay nothing to us.

  • Legal fee stated in writing before you instruct
  • Search pack priced by area, not estimated
  • Leasehold supplements shown separately and upfront
  • No completion-day surprises

Questions worth asking

Ask what happens if the sale falls through, what a leasehold property adds, and who your point of contact is. If the answer to the last one is a department, keep looking.
